Submission Guidelines for Authors

Manuscript Types

Sustainable Science Letters accepts the following types of manuscripts:

  • Original Research Articles: Reporting original research findings (3,000-8,000 words)
  • Review Articles: Critical synthesis of existing research (4,000-10,000 words)
  • Short Communications: Brief reports of significant findings (1,500-3,000 words)
  • Case Studies: Detailed analyses of specific sustainability initiatives or projects (3,000-6,000 words)
  • Perspectives & Opinion Pieces: Viewpoints on emerging issues in sustainability (1,500-3,000 words)

Manuscript Preparation

All manuscripts should be prepared according to the following guidelines:

Title Page

The title page should include:

  • A concise and informative title (max 20 words)
  • Full names and affiliations of all authors
  • ORCID IDs for all authors (if available)
  • Email address of the corresponding author
  • 3-6 keywords representing the main content of the article

Abstract

Provide a structured abstract of 200-300 words that includes:

  • Background/Context
  • Methods/Approach
  • Results/Findings
  • Conclusions/Implications for sustainability

Main Text

The main text should typically include:

  • Introduction: Context, rationale, and objectives of the study
  • Materials and Methods: Detailed description of methodology
  • Results: Clear presentation of findings without interpretation
  • Discussion: Interpretation of results, implications, and limitations
  • Conclusion: Summary of key findings and broader relevance

References

References should follow the APA 7th edition style. List all references cited in the text in alphabetical order. Examples:

  • Journal article: Smith, J., & Jones, L. (2023). Sustainable urban planning practices. Journal of Sustainability, 15(2), 45-67. https://doi.org/10.xxxx/xxxxx
  • Book: Brown, T. (2022). Principles of Sustainable Development. Publisher Name.
  • Book chapter: Wilson, A. (2021). Renewable Energy Integration. In R. Green (Ed.), Energy Transitions (pp. 123-145). Publisher Name.

Figures and Tables

All figures and tables should be:

  • Cited in the text in numerical order
  • Accompanied by descriptive captions
  • High resolution (min. 300 dpi for figures)
  • Self-explanatory and supplementary to the text

Formatting Requirements

  • File Format: Microsoft Word (.docx)
  • Font: Times New Roman, 12 pt
  • Line Spacing: 1.5 lines
  • Margins: 2.5 cm (1 inch) on all sides
  • Page Numbering: Bottom center
  • Headings: Use hierarchy of headings (e.g., Level 1, Level 2) with consistent formatting
  • Units: Use SI units; other units may be given in parentheses

Submission Process

To submit your manuscript to Sustainable Science Letters, please follow these steps:

  1. Prepare your manuscript according to the guidelines above
  2. Complete the submission form on our Submission Portal
  3. Upload your manuscript files (main document, figures, supplementary materials)
  4. Provide details of potential reviewers (optional)
  5. Complete the author declaration form confirming originality and ethical compliance

Submission Checklist

  • Manuscript formatted according to guidelines
  • All authors have approved the submission
  • Figures and tables are clearly labeled
  • References formatted in APA 7th edition style
  • Ethical statements included where applicable
  • Cover letter prepared explaining significance of the work

Ethics & Compliance

Sustainable Science Letters adheres to the highest ethical standards in scholarly publishing:

  • Originality: All submissions must be original work that has not been published elsewhere or is not under consideration by another journal
  • Plagiarism: All manuscripts are screened for plagiarism; plagiarized content will result in immediate rejection
  • Research Ethics: Research involving human participants or animals must include an ethics statement confirming appropriate approvals were obtained
  • Conflicts of Interest: Authors must disclose any financial or personal relationships that could inappropriately influence their work
  • Data Availability: Authors are encouraged to share data supporting their research findings in appropriate repositories

Article Processing Charges & Licensing

APCs are waived for all submissions until December 2025

Sustainable Science Letters operates under a full open access model. To support the costs of publication, the journal normally charges an Article Processing Charge (APC) for accepted manuscripts. However, to encourage submissions during our launch phase, all APCs are waived until June 2026.

After this period, APCs will be $30 USD. Fee waivers will be available for authors from low- and middle-income countries or those facing financial hardship.

All articles are published under a Creative Commons Attribution (CC-BY) license, allowing unrestricted use, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided appropriate credit is given to the original author(s) and the source.
